Jaipur Receives Minimal Budget Allocations Ahead of Municipal Elections

Even as municipal elections approach rapidly, Jaipur has been allocated a lower-than-expected budget in the state's financial plan for 2026-27. The number of projects announced for the state capital is the lowest across the three budgets presented so far by the current BJP government, raising questions about resource distribution.

Limited Project Announcements for the Capital City

Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Diya Kumari, while presenting the state Budget 2026-27, revealed a constrained set of initiatives for Jaipur. These include a new IPD tower at JK Lon Hospital on JLN Marg, a bio-gas plant, two specialized treatment centers—one for avian diseases and another for wild animals—and an oxyzone facility.

Officials emphasized that the most significant budgetary highlight for Jaipur involves an ambitious plan to transform the state capital, along with all divisional headquarters, into signal-free zones. "For this purpose, the state government will allocate more than Rs 2,300 crores for constructing flyovers, underpasses, RoBs/RuBs, and parking-related projects. Approximately 50% of this amount, around Rs 1,000 crore, will be dedicated to Jaipur, with the remainder distributed among other divisional headquarters," an official stated.

Additional Initiatives and Health Sector Investments

Jaipur will also benefit from the establishment of a Raj Sakhi center, part of the Rajasthan Grameen Aajeevika Vikash Parishad initiative. This program aims to empower rural women through Self-Help Groups by creating platforms to showcase handicrafts, textiles, and other products.

The Budget further announced the development of a space gallery and a children's gallery within the Science Park located in Shastri Nagar. Additionally, a new central jail building has been proposed for Jaipur, similar to facilities planned for Udaipur, Jodhpur, and Alwar.

On the health front, officials highlighted new investments, including the JK Lon Hospital IPD tower, which complements an existing IPD tower under construction at SMS Hospital. A Center for Excellence for Mental Health Treatment will be established at Sawai Man Singh Hospital to provide comprehensive counselling and psychiatric care, an official confirmed.

The Budget also allocated funds for enhancing city transport systems and upgrading Jaipur's sewerage network, addressing critical urban infrastructure needs.
