Jaisalmer MLA Ravindra Singh Bhati Faces FIR Over Threats to Folk Singer and Family Insults

In a significant development in Jaisalmer, an FIR has been officially registered against independent MLA Ravindra Singh Bhati and five other individuals. The charges stem from allegations of threatening folk singer Chotu Singh Rawna and making insulting remarks about the women in his family, as confirmed by police authorities on Thursday.

Case Referred to CID-CB Due to MLA's Involvement

Police officials have stated that the case will be investigated by the CID-CB, a specialized investigative agency, specifically because the primary accused is a sitting Member of the Legislative Assembly. This move underscores the seriousness with which the authorities are treating the matter, given the high-profile nature of the individuals involved.

Folk singer Chotu Singh Rawna lodged the formal complaint against MLA Ravindra Singh Bhati, who represents the Sheo constituency, along with five others. The controversy initially erupted following a comment made by the singer on social media regarding Bhati's alleged neglect of a minor cancer patient's plea.

Social Media Comment Sparks Dispute and Escalation

The dispute originated when Rawna posted a comment in Hindi on a social media platform, which translated to: "If you (child) were a reel star then all leaders would have been by your side." This remark was directed at Bhati, accusing him of ignoring the urgent needs of a young cancer patient.

According to the FIR, after this comment was made, MLA Ravindra Singh Bhati personally called the singer and issued direct threats. As the controversy intensified, supporters of Bhati allegedly escalated the situation by posting derogatory and insulting remarks on social media targeting Rawna's family members, particularly the women.

Legal Charges and Evidence Submitted

The FIR was formally registered on Wednesday under specific sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including sections 351 (2) and (3), which pertain to criminal intimidation, and section 79, related to other relevant offenses. SHO Satya Prakash of the Sheo police station provided details on Thursday, confirming that along with the complaint, a pen drive and certain documents were submitted as evidence to support the allegations.

SHO Satya Prakash emphasized, "The FIR was registered on Wednesday under BNS sections 351 (2) (3) and 79. The case is being referred to the CID-CB for investigation."

Community Backlash and Political Response

Following the escalation of the controversy, representatives from the Rawna community took action by submitting formal memorandums to the district administration, voicing their grievances against MLA Ravindra Singh Bhati. This community involvement highlights the broader social impact of the incident.

In response to the allegations, MLA Ravindra Singh Bhati addressed the situation, stating that conspiracies are a routine aspect of politics. He expressed full confidence in the Indian legal system, asserting his faith in due process. Bhati remarked, "People often use others' shoulders and therefore one should never become anyone's tool," suggesting that he views the accusations as part of a larger political maneuver rather than a genuine legal issue.

The case continues to develop as the CID-CB takes over the investigation, with all parties awaiting further legal proceedings and outcomes.
