Employees of Jaipur City Transport Services Ltd (JCTSL), the operator of low-floor bus services in the city, have announced a sit-in protest scheduled for Friday at Shaheed Smarak. The demonstration aims to press for resolutions to long-pending service and operational grievances that have remained unaddressed despite previous efforts.
Key Demands of the Employees
The protesting workers have outlined several critical demands. These include the implementation of the Gratuity Act, release of pending arrears under the National Pension System (NPS) and General Provident Fund (GPF) which they claim remain unpaid even after government funds were allocated. Additionally, they seek payment for overtime work, recruitment to fill vacant positions, procurement of new buses, issuance of a seniority list, and repair of dilapidated buses to enhance safety and reliability.
Escalation of Protest
Union leaders Manish Shrimali and Narendra Gochar have threatened to begin an indefinite hunger strike if no positive decision is reached by Friday. The employee union has also demanded the removal of conductors who have been allegedly posted on clerical office duties for over a decade. Furthermore, they are seeking action against depot managers accused of ignoring directives from higher authorities.
Earlier, on April 16, employees staged a protest outside JCTSL headquarters on the same issues. However, the current escalation follows allegations that management has failed to initiate any dialogue or negotiations.
