Jharkhand CM Unveils Major Economic and Governance Initiatives
Ranchi: In a significant move to bolster the state's economy and governance, Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Wednesday announced the formation of the Jharkhand State Economic Development Board and the launch of the 'CM's Data Intelligence Platform'. These initiatives aim to attract investment and monitor the impact of government schemes, respectively.
Boosting Investment and Monitoring Schemes
Speaking at the concluding session of the assembly's budget session, CM Hemant Soren emphasized the government's commitment to ensuring schemes reach the grassroots level. The proposed Data Intelligence Platform will analyze data from state projects and schemes, potentially increasing their speed of implementation, he stated.
The newly formed Economic Development Board will focus on attracting investment across various sectors, with a particular emphasis on energy transition, employment, and social welfare. "Energy transition is a key focus area," Soren said, adding that Jharkhand plans to collaborate with Germany and other countries on this issue.
Eco-Tourism and Cultural Development
In addition to economic measures, the CM announced ambitious plans for tourism and cultural preservation:
- Development of five major eco-tourism sites by 2028.
- Establishment of a Dishom Guru memorial to serve as a cultural hub.
- Preservation and development of 35 megaliths and monoliths across the state.
- Enhancement of the fossil park in Sahibgang.
Support for Migrant Workers and Financial Growth
The CM also addressed issues affecting migrant workers, announcing the formation of a Pravasi Jharkhand Foundation to assist them. "While we previously brought back bodies of migrants who died in accidents, we will now extend efforts to those who die by suicide," Soren stated. He expressed concern that a new central scheme replacing MGNREGA might increase migration from the state.
Highlighting the state's financial progress, Soren noted that the annual budget has grown by 85%, from approximately Rs 86,000 crore six years ago to Rs 1.58 lakh crore for 2026-27. "Niti Aayog has praised our financial management, and Jharkhand has risen from 13th to 3rd in the country in this regard," he said, acknowledging the challenge given that 80% of the population lives in rural areas.
Education and Policy Responses
On the education front, the CM announced plans to develop 100 more schools as centres of excellence. He also defended raising the issue of Assam tribals in the state assembly, stating that deprived communities nationwide look to Jharkhand to champion their causes.
Regarding central policies, Soren commented on the Centre's plan to provide a fixed number of cylinders to states, which would require them to manage distribution. "This step could place responsibility on states if there is a supply shortage," he cautioned.
