Jind Factory Fire Tragedy: Families Reject Compensation, Demand Govt Jobs

Tension has gripped Safidon town in Jind district as families of the victims from a recent factory fire tragedy have firmly refused to accept compensation cheques offered by the district administration. Instead, they are demanding permanent government jobs for one member from each affected household, citing the need for long-term livelihood security over mere financial relief.

Families Stand Firm Ahead of CM's Visit

The issue is set to be raised directly with Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini during his scheduled visit to Safidon on April 4. The district administration has been actively attempting to resolve the matter before this high-profile visit, but the grieving families have declined the cheques and insisted on a meeting with the CM to voice their grievances.

According to reports, the tragic incident occurred nearly 24 days ago when a devastating fire broke out at a local factory, resulting in the deaths of 12 women and leaving several others with severe burn injuries. Since then, the affected families have been vocal in their demand for stronger governmental support and accountability.

Compensation Offer Rejected as Inadequate

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Imran Raza visited the Safidon rest house to distribute compensation cheques to the victims' families. However, the families expressed deep dissatisfaction and anger, refusing to accept the cheques. They argued that financial compensation alone is insufficient to compensate for their irreplaceable loss and emphasised the necessity of sustainable support mechanisms.

The families have articulated that permanent government jobs would provide crucial livelihood security, ensuring a stable future for the bereaved households. Additionally, they have raised serious concerns about the handling of the incident, alleging negligence and demanding strict action against those responsible for the tragedy.

Administration's Response and Ongoing Investigations

Despite repeated efforts by the administration to persuade the families, they have remained steadfast in their demands, returning without accepting any compensation. The administration has assured that their demands will be conveyed to higher authorities, while investigations into the fire incident are still ongoing to determine the causes and assign accountability.

The tragedy has sparked widespread outrage among local residents, who are calling for stringent measures against the culprits. Sources indicate that locals are particularly annoyed with the behavior of local BJP MLA Ramkumar Gautam, accusing him of ignoring the tragic incident. Local police officials have declined to comment on these allegations, maintaining a cautious stance as the situation develops.

This unfolding scenario highlights the deep-seated frustrations of the affected families and underscores the challenges faced by the administration in addressing both immediate relief and long-term rehabilitation in the aftermath of such a devastating event.
