Tragic Roof Collapse in Jind Claims Lives of Mother and Daughter
A devastating incident unfolded in Jind district on Saturday morning when the roof of a house collapsed, resulting in the tragic deaths of a woman and her young daughter. The accident occurred in the Dhani locality of Gandhinagar in Narwana town, sending shockwaves through the neighbourhood.
Details of the Fatal Incident
The roof collapse happened around 8:30 am in a lane of Ward No. 14. Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud crash as the roof of a room suddenly gave way. At the time, Usha and her daughter Mayra were inside the room and were immediately buried under the debris.
Local residents rushed to the scene upon hearing the commotion. With the help of neighbours, they worked quickly to remove the rubble and pull both victims from the wreckage. The mother and daughter were then transported to Narwana civil hospital, where doctors unfortunately declared them dead upon arrival.
Police Investigation and Initial Findings
Police officials reached the spot shortly after the incident and conducted a thorough inspection of the collapsed structure. Their preliminary investigation revealed that the roof had been in a dilapidated condition, which likely contributed to the tragic collapse.
Political Response and Condolences
Narwana MLA and cabinet minister Krishan Kumar Bedi visited the grieving family to offer his condolences. During his visit, he assured the family of all possible government assistance and support during this difficult time.
Narrow Escape for Other Family Members
Usha's husband Ashish, who works as a labourer and lives in a rented house in Gandhinagar Dhani, had already left for work when the accident occurred. The family home was occupied by several other members at the time of the collapse.
Besides Usha and Mayra, other family members present included Ashish's parents, daughters Radhika and Sonal, and brother Manish. According to accounts, Usha and Mayra were sitting on a bed in the room when the roof collapsed above them.
In a fortunate turn of events, Ashish's mother Veena had stepped out just minutes earlier to drop Radhika and Sonal at school. Meanwhile, his ailing father was sitting in the courtyard at the time of the incident, which likely saved him from being trapped in the collapse.
The tragic incident has highlighted concerns about building safety in the area and has left the local community in mourning over the loss of two lives in such sudden and devastating circumstances.
