JMM Activates District Cadres Ahead of Electoral Roll Revision in Jharkhand
The ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has initiated a comprehensive mobilization of its party cadres at the district and block levels across the state. This strategic move comes in anticipation of the imminent special intensive revision (SIR) of the electoral roll, a critical process that is expected to commence shortly. The party is conducting a series of workshops and meetings to sensitize and prepare its workers for the upcoming electoral and demographic exercises.
District-Level Meetings Kick Off at CM's Residence
On Tuesday, JMM workers from 12 district units, including Sahibganj, Dumka, Godda, Pakur, Deoghar, Jamtara, East Singhbhum, Seraikela-Kharsawan, Lohardaga, Gumla, Khunti, and Simdega, gathered for a crucial meeting. The assembly was held at the residence of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, who also serves as the JMM president. Senior party members were present to oversee the proceedings and provide guidance to the attendees.
The meeting not only focused on the impending electoral roll revision but also emphasized the importance of the upcoming Census. According to party office-bearers in Ranchi, workers from the remaining 12 districts of Jharkhand are scheduled to attend a similar meeting on Wednesday, ensuring statewide coverage and coordination.
Party's Stance on Electoral Roll Revision
JMM general secretary Vinod Pandey articulated the party's position in a statement to the press. "While the party is not principally opposed to the special intensive revision, we are concerned about the process that has led to the removal of lakhs of voters in states like Bihar and West Bengal due to political agendas," Pandey explained. He underscored the JMM's commitment to vigilance against any illegal practices during the revision to ensure that no genuine voter is excluded from the electoral list.
Pandey further revealed that the JMM has planned to extend its sensitization programs to the booth level in the coming days. "Workers will be trained through special campaigns at various levels, enabling them to educate the public about the voter list, Census, and other sensitive issues," he added, highlighting the party's proactive approach.
Census: A Matter of Social and Political Representation
In his remarks, Pandey stressed that the Census transcends mere statistical enumeration. "Census is not merely a matter of statistics, but also an important issue related to social and political representation," he asserted. He emphasized the necessity of ensuring accurate enumeration of Jharkhand's tribal, indigenous, backward, and deprived communities to safeguard their rights and ensure fair representation in governance and policy-making.
Leadership's Directives to Party Workers
Chief Minister Hemant Soren, addressing the gathered workers, called on them to take personal responsibility in the electoral roll revision process. He urged them to remain vigilant and active to prevent the exclusion of any eligible voter during the SIR. This directive aligns with the party's broader strategy to strengthen grassroots engagement and ensure electoral integrity.
The JMM's mobilization efforts reflect a concerted push to prepare its cadre for the dual challenges of electoral roll revision and the Census. By focusing on training and awareness, the party aims to protect voter rights and promote accurate demographic data, which are crucial for the state's political and social landscape.
