Jubilee Park in Jamshedpur Sealed for Fortnight Ahead of Founder's Day Celebrations
The East Singhbhum district administration has officially closed Jubilee Park in Jamshedpur to all visitors and vehicular traffic for a period of fifteen days. This decisive action comes as preparation work intensifies for the upcoming Founder's Day celebrations scheduled for March 3.
Administrative Order and Closure Details
Dhalbhum subdivisional officer Arnab Mishra issued the formal closure order on Friday. The directive mandates that the park gates will remain shut from Saturday, February 24, until Thursday, March 7. This closure was implemented at the specific request of Tata Steel Utility and Infrastructure Services Ltd (TS USIL), which is overseeing the decoration and preparatory activities within the park premises.
Founder's Day, observed annually on the birth anniversary of the visionary industrialist Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata, is a significant event in the city. While the park will reopen to pedestrian visitors on the evening of March 3, following the day's ceremonies, the ban on all vehicle entry will persist until the full closure period ends on March 7.
Significant Traffic Disruptions Anticipated
The park's closure is expected to cause considerable inconvenience to daily commuters, particularly affecting:
- Two-wheeler riders
- Three-wheeler auto-rickshaws
- Private car owners
Jubilee Park serves as a crucial thoroughfare for residents traveling between key areas of the city. Motorists from Kadma and Sonari routinely navigate through the park to reach Sakchi and Mango, utilizing this route to avoid the chronic congestion on Straight Mile Road, which directly connects Kadma to Sakchi.
Compounding Existing Traffic Woes
Straight Mile Road is already notorious for heavy traffic, especially during peak school hours. The stretch between Keenan Stadium and the Fire Temple frequently experiences severe gridlock. With the park route now unavailable, traffic pressure on alternative roads is predicted to increase dramatically.
"With the park now closed, vehicular traffic will be significantly high on other roads," stated Sunny Sharma, a Kadma-based real estate trader, highlighting local concerns about the impending congestion.
It is noteworthy that vehicular movement through Jubilee Park is typically prohibited only during the annual picnic season from December 25 to January 1. This extended, mid-year closure for event preparations is an unusual measure that underscores the scale of the Founder's Day arrangements.
The district administration advises all residents and commuters to plan their travel routes accordingly and expect delays during this fifteen-day period. Alternative arrangements for local traffic management during the closure have not been formally announced.
