Farmers from villages falling under the ambit of New Kanpur City staged a demonstration and sit-in at the Kanpur Development Authority (KDA) headquarters on Monday to lodge their protest against the authority.
Allegations of Unfair Land Acquisition
The farmers alleged that the KDA had included their land in its scheme without providing them any compensation. This protest followed a previous demonstration on Saturday, after which it was agreed between the farmers and KDA officials to hold a meeting on Monday. The farmers arrived at the KDA office at noon, but officials initially showed no interest in the meeting. Later, they called the farmers into their cabin for discussions.
Union Leader's Statement
Amit Rajput, president of the Bhartiya Kisan Union, Kanpur division, stated that they had handed over a memorandum to SDM Ravi Pratap Singh. However, Singh was alone in the meeting, and the matter could not be resolved. Rajput warned that if their problem was not addressed, a larger movement would be launched.
Official Response
On the other hand, SDM Ravi Pratap Singh acknowledged that some farmers had not received compensation and assured that he would apprise senior officials of the farmers' grievances.
