Breakfast Meeting Aims to Quell Leadership Rumors
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah hosted Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar for a significant breakfast meeting at his residence 'Kaveri' in Bengaluru on Saturday, amid ongoing speculation about leadership tensions within the state's Congress party. The meeting, which took place on November 29, 2025, was closely watched by political observers as both leaders attempted to present a united front.
The Chief Minister explicitly stated that their discussion focused on future political strategies rather than current differences. "The breakfast was good. We didn't talk about anything there. We just had breakfast. DKS came to our house today...DKS invited me to his house," Siddaramaiah told reporters in a casual tone that belied the political significance of the meeting.
United Front for 2028 Elections
Addressing the media after the meeting, Siddaramaiah delivered a clear message about party unity and future objectives. He emphasized that both leaders are completely aligned in their vision for the Congress party's future in Karnataka. "There are no differences between us and there will be no differences in the future," the Chief Minister asserted confidently.
The senior Congress leader revealed that their primary agenda revolves around the 2028 state elections. "Our agenda is the 2028 elections. Local body elections are important. We discussed them. We also discussed bringing back Congress in the 2028 elections. We discussed that we will go together," Siddaramaiah explained, outlining their shared commitment to the party's long-term success.
Dismissing Opposition Challenges
Siddaramaiah didn't hold back when addressing the opposition's attempts to capitalize on perceived divisions within the ruling party. He specifically called out the BJP and JDS for what he described as their tendency to make false allegations against the Congress government.
The Chief Minister confidently dismissed the opposition's threat of a no-confidence motion, highlighting the Congress party's strong numerical advantage in the legislative assembly. "The BJP and JDS have a habit of making false allegations. The BJP and JDS have made statements that they will bring a no-confidence motion. They are only 60, and the JDS is 18. They cannot match our numbers. We are 140. This is a futile exercise. We will confront their false allegations," he stated firmly.
Siddaramaiah also addressed the media's role in amplifying what he characterized as non-existent confusion within the party leadership. "We have decided that we will follow whatever the high command says. There will be no confusion from tomorrow. There is still no confusion. Some media reporters have created the confusion," he noted, directly challenging the narrative of internal party conflict.
The breakfast meeting and subsequent statements appear designed to reinforce the image of a stable Congress leadership in Karnataka, particularly important as the party prepares for upcoming local body elections and looks ahead to the crucial 2028 state assembly polls.
