Karnataka Communities to Stage Protest Over Alleged Bias in Internal Reservation Report

Members of the Bhovi, Banjara, Korama, Koracha, Chalavadi, and Charmakara communities in Karnataka have announced a protest to oppose the report of the Justice HN Nagamohan Das Commission, which was tasked with providing recommendations for internal reservations. The communities allege that the data in the report is biased and has ignored numerous castes, leading to widespread discontent.

Protest Details and Demands

Pavan Kumar, convenor of the Bhovi Community Youth Wing, stated that the protest will be held at Freedom Park in Bengaluru on Tuesday. The demonstration aims to pressure the government to either establish a new commission or set up a floor committee to address the issues raised. The protest will be led by Sri Immadi Siddarameshwara Swami of the Bhovi Gurupeeth in Chitradurga, in association with the aforementioned communities.

Kumar emphasized that the Justice Nagamohan Das Commission report, submitted to the chief minister on August 4, 2025, is incomplete and unscientific. He claimed that the leaked portions contain irrational recommendations and fail to provide a comprehensive analysis of the 50-year social status of 101 communities. The communities are demanding that the government publish a full report and allow additional time for objections from these communities.

Allegations of Injustice and Government Inaction

According to Kumar, several communities have been meted out injustice through the report, with their demands for a meeting of all community leaders being ignored by the government. This has forced them to resort to protest. He also highlighted specific issues, such as the Bhovi community members in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi not receiving caste certificates, further exacerbating their grievances.

The commission was originally asked to conduct a study on internal reservations for Scheduled Castes, but the communities argue that the process has been flawed. They stress the need for a more transparent and inclusive approach to ensure fair representation and address historical disparities.

Key Points of the Protest:
  • Opposition to the Justice HN Nagamohan Das Commission report due to alleged bias.
  • Demand for a new commission or floor committee to rectify issues.
  • Call for publication of a comprehensive report with data on 101 communities.
  • Request for extended time to receive objections from affected communities.
  • Highlight of specific injustices, such as denial of caste certificates in some regions.

The protest underscores ongoing tensions in Karnataka over reservation policies and the need for equitable solutions in social justice matters. The communities hope that their demonstration will prompt government action to address their concerns and foster a more just system.
