The Karnataka Congress has announced a statewide protest against the recent surge in fuel prices, which have increased by Rs 7.52 per litre over the past 11 days. The party accuses the state government of failing to control the rising costs, which are burdening common citizens.
Congress Calls for Action
State Congress leaders have criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government for the price hike, demanding immediate measures to reduce the financial strain on the public. They have called for a series of protests across all districts to highlight the issue and pressure the government to roll back the increase.
Opposition Leader's Counter
Leader of Opposition R Ashoka responded by stating that the central government does not benefit from the fuel price hike. Instead, he argued, the Karnataka government would collect an additional Rs 6,000 crore in Value Added Tax (VAT) revenue as a result of the increased prices. He urged the Congress to focus on constructive solutions rather than protests.
The fuel price hike has sparked a political battle in the state, with both parties trading accusations. The Congress claims the government is insensitive to the plight of the people, while the ruling party defends its policies as necessary for revenue generation.
Citizens have expressed frustration over the rising fuel costs, which have led to increased transportation and commodity prices. Many hope that the protests will lead to a resolution that eases their financial burden.
