Marathwada Tanker Count Exceeds 400 Amid Rain Deficit

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The number of water tankers deployed in the Marathwada region has surged past the 400 mark, reflecting an escalating water scarcity crisis. Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district, which has recorded a rain deficiency of approximately 73%, accounts for nearly two-thirds of the total tankers deployed across the region.

According to official data, the region had only around 156 tankers in operation as of May 10. The demand for alternative water supply has more than doubled within a month, highlighting the severity of the situation.

District-wise Tanker Deployment

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district has the highest number of tankers at 259, followed by Jalna (85), Dharashiv (17), Nanded (14), Parbhani (11), Beed (8), Latur (3), and Hingoli (2).

A senior official from the revenue department stated that over 1,150 private wells have been acquired in the region for refilling tankers to meet the water needs of affected residents. “Standing instructions are in place to arrange a tanker if villagers report scarcity,” the official said, appealing to residents to use water judiciously.

Rainfall Deficiency

Marathwada, comprising eight districts, has received an average of 38 mm of rainfall since June 1, marking a nearly 23% deficiency. Some districts, including Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (73%), Jalna (62%), and Hingoli (55%), are experiencing rain deficits well above the regional average.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast no vigorous rainfall activity in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and many other parts of Marathwada for the next 24 hours. Partly cloudy weather with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers is possible in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
