Karnataka Chief Minister D K Shivakumar announced on Saturday that beneficiaries of the Gruha Lakshmi and Gruha Jyothi schemes must resubmit their applications. The decision aims to ensure that only genuine beneficiaries receive the benefits and to eliminate misuse.
Identity Cards for Genuine Beneficiaries
The Chief Minister stated that the government plans to issue identity cards to verified beneficiaries. He noted that some individuals have been availing Gruha Jyothi benefits for commercial purposes, such as running shops, which is a violation of the scheme's guidelines.
Resubmission Process
Shivakumar emphasized that the resubmission process will help identify and remove ineligible claimants. The move is part of the government's broader effort to streamline welfare schemes and ensure that subsidies reach the intended recipients.
The announcement comes amid concerns over the misuse of state-sponsored housing and electricity benefits. The Gruha Lakshmi scheme provides financial assistance to women-headed households, while Gruha Jyothi offers free electricity up to 200 units per month to eligible consumers.
Beneficiaries are advised to submit fresh applications with the required documents. The government will conduct verification before issuing identity cards. Further details on the application process and deadlines are expected to be released soon.
