In a strong statement aimed at quelling speculation, Karnataka Housing Minister BZ Zameer Ahmed Khan on Wednesday asserted that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's position is secure and that only the Congress high command holds the authority to make any changes to the state's leadership.
High Command Holds Sole Authority
Addressing reporters in Mysuru, Minister Khan made it clear that no one except the Congress high command has the power to remove Siddaramaiah from the chief minister's post. He emphasized that Siddaramaiah is firmly seated in his role and that the CM himself has stated the final decision rests with the party's top leadership.
"Siddaramaiah is seated on the CM's chair and is secure in that position," Khan stated. He further added that he was not aware of any power-sharing agreement within the party, a topic that has been the subject of intense media speculation for months.
Personal Opinion Backs CM Till 2028
While clarifying that he was sharing his personal view and that everyone is free to express their opinions, the minister projected long-term stability. "Siddaramaiah is the CM now and, in my view, he will continue in the post till 2028," Khan declared, expressing confidence in the current leadership for the full term of the legislative assembly.
On DCM's Delhi Visit and Lokayukta Raid
Responding to questions about Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar's recent visit to the national capital, Khan downplayed its significance, stating it was related to routine departmental work. "He has already issued a statement in this regard," the minister noted.
When asked about the recent Lokayukta raid on the premises of his aide, Sarfaraz, Khan said he had no specific information about the operation. He pointed out that Sarfaraz's family has been wealthy since his father's time and expressed uncertainty about the reasons behind the raid. "I do not know why the raid was conducted. Let us wait and see what happens," Khan concluded, adopting a wait-and-watch approach to the development.
The minister's comments come at a time when political circles are abuzz with discussions about leadership dynamics within the Karnataka Congress, making his unequivocal support for Siddaramaiah a significant statement.
