Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara has stirred a political and regional debate by proposing that Tumakuru be renamed as Bengaluru North. Speaking at a public event, Parameshwara highlighted the growing integration of Tumakuru with Bengaluru and suggested that the new name would reflect the region's development trajectory.

Parameshwara revealed that a detailed plan has been prepared to extend metro rail connectivity from Bengaluru to Tumakuru. He urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar to expedite the project, emphasizing its potential to boost economic growth and ease commuting for thousands of daily travelers.
Political Reactions
The proposal has drawn mixed reactions from political circles and local residents. While some see it as a step towards urban development and better infrastructure, others fear it may dilute Tumakuru's distinct identity.
