Kavitha to Form New Political Party in Telangana, Targets Assembly Elections
In a significant political development in Hyderabad, Kalvakuntla Kavitha, the founder-president of Telangana Jagruthi, has announced her intention to launch a new political party in the first week of May this year. The former MP declared that her party will actively contest the upcoming assembly elections, with Kavitha herself planning to stand as a candidate, likely from either the Siddipet or Bodhan assembly constituency.
Party Details and Electoral Strategy
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Kavitha revealed that the party's name will prominently feature 'Telangana', emphasizing its regional focus. While she indicated she could contest from anywhere in the state, her current priority centers on two specific constituencies. She asserted that Telangana Jagruthi serves as the main opposition in the state, vigorously advocating for people's issues and holding the principal opposition role in the Peddapalli municipality.
"Jagruthi will continue to question the Congress, the BJP and the BRS, and the BJP is gradually disappearing in Telangana," Kavitha stated, outlining her party's critical stance against established political entities.
Expansion and Alliance Plans
Kavitha highlighted that Telangana Jagruthi has already supported several candidates in municipal elections, with some securing victories in areas like Peddapalli. Looking ahead, she expressed confidence in forming potential alliances with other parties for the MPTC and ZPTC elections, anticipating a sizeable number of seats in ZP and other electoral contests. She confirmed that the party symbol will be finalized by the time of the GHMC elections, ensuring they contest under their own banner.
"Many BRS leaders are in touch with us. After the launch, my party will give equal importance to all sections of society, with a special focus on youth. There is a need for young people to enter politics," Kavitha emphasized, detailing her vision for inclusive governance.
Organizational Structure and Future Prospects
To strengthen grassroots connections, Kavitha disclosed that they have formed 50 committees to understand public issues and facilitate various discussions. She noted significant interest from BRS leaders in joining the new party, promising to reveal further details at an appropriate time. This move signals a potential realignment in Telangana's political landscape, with Kavitha positioning her party as a fresh alternative.
Criticism of Congress Government and RTC Merger Issue
Earlier, Kavitha launched a scathing attack on the Congress government, accusing it of betraying RTC workers and failing to implement clear promises. She demanded that the upcoming Budget session allocate dedicated funds for assurances, particularly the long-pending merger of the TGSRTC with the government. Noting that the RTC merger Bill has already been passed, she questioned why the Congress government is deliberately delaying its implementation.
She specifically criticized Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, stating that despite pre-election promises of RTC merger, his government has completely turned its back on RTC workers after assuming power.
Support for RTC Workers and Warning of Agitation
In a show of solidarity, Kavitha announced the full support of Telangana Jagruthi for the RTC workers' "Chalo Secretariat" programme scheduled for February 24. She issued a stern warning that the organization would intensify its agitation if the government continues to ignore the workers' demands, underscoring her commitment to labor rights and accountability.
This announcement marks a pivotal moment in Telangana politics, as Kavitha's new party aims to challenge existing power structures while addressing key issues like youth engagement and public welfare. With the launch set for May and elections on the horizon, political observers are closely watching these developments unfold.
