Kerala Chief Minister Defends Independent Candidates, Rejects Allegations

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday staunchly defended the Left Democratic Front's (LDF) decision to field independent candidates in Palakkad and other constituencies, firmly rejecting accusations that "weak candidates" were nominated as part of a covert arrangement with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Rejection of Corruption Charges

Vijayan also categorically dismissed the graft allegations raised by opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala concerning software development for cooperatives. Speaking to reporters in Palakkad during his campaign for LDF candidates, the Chief Minister asserted, "LDF remains a government of action that delivers on its promises. We secured a historic second term based on tangible developmental changes that the public clearly recognises."

Accusations Against Opposition

The Chief Minister accused the United Democratic Front (UDF) of resorting to blatant falsehoods regarding support from the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) in Malappuram. He stated that UDF leaders, including Chennithala and V D Satheesan, are now engaging in a desperate campaign of lies and baseless allegations about SDPI backing to divert public attention from their own pro-corporate and globalist policies.

"While the opposition competes to spread misinformation and attempts to paint the LDF's strategy of fielding independent candidates in a negative light, the reality remains that while they point fingers, it was RSS leadership that explicitly called for supporting UDF votes," Vijayan emphasized.

Public Perception and Government Stance

He further elaborated that the public can easily see through such political propaganda and discern which party genuinely prioritizes a pro-people stance. "LDF refuses to be drawn into every manufactured controversy because people see through these agendas and prioritise the government's genuine, pro-people stance over political propaganda," the Chief Minister added.

Specific Denial of Rs 700 Crore Corruption Allegation

Vijayan specifically rejected allegations of a Rs 700 crore corruption move linked to the cooperative department's proposed common software project, dismissing the opposition's charges as politically motivated and entirely lacking factual basis.

Clarification on Cooperative Software Project

Clarifying the controversy surrounding the cooperative software project, Vijayan stated that the tender process for implementing a unified digital platform for cooperative societies was completed as early as 2021. "All procedures were carried out transparently and in strict accordance with established norms," he asserted, rejecting any insinuations of irregularities.

Highlighting Development Record

Vijayan also used the occasion to highlight his government's development track record, with particular focus on achievements in the agricultural sector. He pointed to:

  • A steady and significant increase in paddy procurement.
  • Enhanced financial assistance packages provided directly to farmers.
  • Phased and consistent hikes in government support prices for agricultural produce.

The Chief Minister's statements in Palakkad aimed to reinforce the LDF's governance narrative of transparency and pro-people policies while countering the opposition's campaign criticisms head-on.
