Kerala CM Vijayan Calls Rahul Gandhi BJP's 'B-Team'

Kerala Chief Minister Unleashes Scathing Critique on Rahul Gandhi

In a sharply worded press conference held at Kothamangalam on Thursday, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan launched a blistering attack on Lok Sabha Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing the Congress and its leader of effectively functioning as the BJP's "B-team." Vijayan asserted that Rahul Gandhi has played a pivotal role in enabling the Bharatiya Janata Party to secure and consolidate power in several key states across India.

Allegations of Undermining Opposition Unity

The Chief Minister elaborated on his accusations, stating that the Congress party under Rahul Gandhi's leadership was instrumental in initiating the legal case against Aam Aadmi Party's Arvind Kejriwal. "When the court acquitted him, it was a blow not only to the BJP but to the Congress as well," Vijayan claimed. He further alleged that during the period when the BJP was targeting opposition leaders with legal actions, Congress and Rahul Gandhi demanded Kejriwal's arrest following the detention of a cabinet colleague, which ultimately led to his imprisonment.

Vijayan emphasized that the acquittal of Kejriwal represented a significant setback for the Congress, yet Rahul Gandhi failed to learn any lessons from this outcome. The Kerala CM criticized Gandhi's political approach, particularly his refusal to align with the common stance of non-BJP parties during the Delhi elections, even when Congress had no realistic chance of winning. This decision, according to Vijayan, directly benefited the BJP and facilitated their electoral success.

Historical Alliances and Electoral Consequences

The Chief Minister provided detailed examples to support his claims, highlighting how Rahul Gandhi's actions allegedly fractured opposition unity in critical states. "In Haryana, where even the BJP did not expect to win, Rahul's actions broke the opposition unity, leading to a BJP victory," he stated. Similarly, Vijayan pointed to Bihar, where he asserted that the divisive atmosphere cultivated by Gandhi during elections ultimately advantaged the BJP.

Vijayan also delved into historical context, noting that even when Congress was a dominant national force, the party has a long-standing tradition of forming electoral alliances with the BJP in Kerala. He cited specific instances such as alliances against EMS in Pattambi and AKG in Palakkad, along with more recent collaborations in Vadakara and Beypore. "There was a situation when an RSS leader told the Congress leadership that because of the saffron party's support in 41 seats, the Congressman is holding the chief minister's position in Kerala," Vijayan revealed, underscoring the depth of these political arrangements.

Criticism of Election Commission and Democratic Principles

Beyond his critique of Rahul Gandhi, Chief Minister Vijayan also addressed concerns regarding the Election Commission's recent actions. He referenced the EC's directive to police to take action against alleged misleading news on social media concerning a letter bearing the BJP's seal. Vijayan described this move as demonstrating the Commission's "intolerance towards criticism" and stated that the Chief Election Commissioner would be asked to intervene.

"The seal of the BJP's Kerala unit appearing on an EC document was 'unbelievable' and cannot be dismissed as a mere lapse by a single official," Vijayan asserted. He demanded transparency, calling for the details of the investigation and its findings to be made public. Emphasizing democratic values, the Chief Minister added, "Not allowing criticism is not right in a democratic system." He clarified that the police action was taken on the EC's directive, noting that the police are no longer under his administrative control.

Questioning Leadership and Political Maturity

In his concluding remarks, Pinarayi Vijayan questioned Rahul Gandhi's political acumen and leadership capabilities. "Rahul is a national leader but he doesn't have the understanding and knowledge of even an ordinary party worker," he stated, using the Malayalam phrase 'Kandalum kondalum padikkilla' (Won't learn from seeing and experiencing) to underscore his point. Vijayan expressed bewilderment at how a figure revered by Congress members could, in his view, demonstrate such a decline in political judgment.

The Chief Minister's comprehensive critique not only targeted individual leadership failures but also painted a broader picture of strategic missteps that have, according to his analysis, repeatedly benefited the BJP at the expense of a united opposition front.
