Kerala Congress (Joseph) Unveils Candidate List for Assembly Election

The Kerala Congress (Joseph) party officially announced its roster of eight candidates for the forthcoming state assembly election on Tuesday. This significant political development marks a transition in leadership as veteran chairman P J Joseph steps away from electoral politics.

Leadership Transition in Thodupuzha

P J Joseph, who has contested from the Thodupuzha seat an impressive eleven times with only a single defeat, has decided to retire from active electoral contests. Stepping into his father's political shoes is his eldest son, Apu John Joseph, who will now carry the party's banner in Thodupuzha.

Apu John Joseph currently serves as the party's state coordinator. An engineering graduate, he previously worked as a senior software engineer in Switzerland before entering the political arena in 2008.

Complete Candidate List Across Constituencies

The party has strategically fielded candidates across multiple key constituencies in Kerala. The full list of candidates includes:

  • Monce Joseph will contest again from the Kaduthuruthy constituency.
  • Varghese Mammen has been nominated for the Thiruvalla seat.
  • Reji Cherian will represent the party in Kuttanad.
  • Vinu Job is the candidate for Changanassery.
  • Shibu Thekkumpuram will contest from Kothamangalam.
  • Thomas Unniyadan has been fielded in Irinjalakuda.
  • Shaiji Ottapally will contest from Kanhangad.

Seat-Sharing Arrangements Within UDF

As part of the seat-sharing agreement within the United Democratic Front (UDF) coalition, the Kerala Congress (Joseph) has conceded two significant seats to the Congress party. The Idukki and Ettumanoor constituencies, which were previously held by KC(J), will now be contested by Congress candidates in the upcoming election.

This strategic concession reflects the ongoing negotiations and alliances within Kerala's political landscape as parties position themselves for the assembly polls.
