Kochi Man Alleges Post-Poll Attack Over Election Campaign Dispute
In a disturbing incident following the assembly elections, Vazhakulam police in Kochi have registered a formal case based on a complaint filed by a resident of Manjalloor. The complainant, Rijo Chacko, reported that his house was targeted with stone-pelting late Thursday night, just hours after polling concluded. He has raised serious suspicions linking the attack to a prior disagreement over the use of his property for election campaigning by the Left Democratic Front (LDF).
Details of the Complaint and Alleged Retaliation
According to the police complaint, the conflict began when graffiti supporting the LDF candidate was painted on Rijo Chacko's boundary wall without his explicit consent. Upon discovering this unauthorized act, Chacko objected and had the graffiti promptly erased. He alleges that this action led to immediate backlash from individuals he believes are LDF workers.
Later that evening, around 8:30 PM, Chacko claims that two individuals arrived on a two-wheeler and subjected him to verbal abuse. The situation escalated significantly around midnight, when a group of men on two motorcycles reportedly pelted stones at his residence. The attack resulted in a broken window glass and other minor damages to the property, causing distress and fear in the household.
Police Response and Ongoing Investigation
Vazhakulam police have confirmed that they have launched a thorough investigation into the incident. Authorities stated that while the case has been registered based on the complaint, the suspects involved in the stone-pelting and verbal abuse have not yet been identified. The investigation is ongoing, with police collecting evidence and statements to determine the exact circumstances and perpetrators behind the alleged attack.
This incident highlights tensions that can arise during election periods, particularly concerning property rights and campaign activities. The police have urged the public to report any similar incidents and are working to ensure such acts of violence are addressed promptly to maintain law and order in the region.
