In a significant escalation of his political offensive against the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) government, opposition leader V D Satheesan on Tuesday issued a forceful demand for the immediate resignation of minister K Krishnankutty and Thiruvalla legislator Mathew T Thomas. This dramatic development follows the emergence of an explosive audio recording that the opposition claims provides concrete validation of long-standing allegations that the catastrophic 2018 Kerala floods were a 'man-made disaster' resulting from systemic mismanagement and corruption.
Audio Recording Corroborates Allegations of Flood Mismanagement
Satheesan asserted that the leaked conversation involving Minister Krishnankutty offers undeniable evidence of gross negligence and deliberate protocol violations. According to the opposition leader, the minister's remarks in the recording directly 'implicated' the then water resources minister Mathew T Thomas, suggesting that dam management procedures were intentionally subverted to benefit sand and mineral mafia operations. "I have consistently maintained since 2018 that this tragedy was man-made. Today, the minister's own words have powerfully underscored that serious allegation. The people of Kerala deserve full transparency about who bears responsibility for the massive loss of lives and property," Satheesan declared during a press conference in Paravur.
Minister Dismisses Audio as AI-Generated Deepfake
Earlier, Minister Krishnankutty had categorically dismissed the controversial audio clip as a sophisticated AI-generated deepfake fabrication. Vijayan once labeled Vizhinjam a 'real estate scam,' yet today he shamelessly claims full credit for its success," Satheesan remarked pointedly.
He characterized the entire LDF tenure as a period marked by 'non-governance' and pervasive corruption, citing multiple examples including the high-profile gold theft at Sabarimala involving CPM leaders and the distribution of expired medicines during the COVID-19 pandemic as prime illustrations of the government's ethical bankruptcy.
Economic Failures and Political Predictions
The opposition leader further highlighted significant economic failures under the current administration, noting that Kerala has topped national inflation charts for twelve consecutive months while the agricultural sector remains in deep crisis due to failed paddy procurement policies and stagnant rubber prices.
