Kerala Launches 'Electricity Accident-Free Kerala' Safety Calendar for Students
Kerala Power Safety Calendar Launched for 2025-26

In a significant move to enhance public safety, Kerala's Electricity Minister K Krishnankutty officially launched a specialized power safety calendar. This initiative is designed to foster widespread awareness about electrical hazards among students and the general public across the state.

Collaborative Drive for a Safer Kerala

The ambitious campaign is a joint effort between the Kerala State Electricity Board Limited (KSEBL) and the National Service Scheme (NSS). Titled 'Electricity Accident-Free Kerala' for the 2025–26 academic year, it aims to drastically reduce accidents related to electricity. The launch event was conducted at the minister's office in Thiruvananthapuram.

Grassroots Distribution and Key Focus Areas

The safety calendars will be initially disseminated through various NSS camps organized statewide. The first copies were symbolically presented to Prarthana and Akshaya, students of Nemom Government Higher Secondary School, by Minister Krishnankutty himself.

The core of the program involves mobilizing NSS volunteers from 345 vocational higher secondary schools spread across all districts of Kerala. These volunteers will act as safety ambassadors, disseminating crucial electrical safety messages to their peers and the community.

The awareness drive will meticulously focus on:

  • Precautionary measures to prevent electrocution at homes and in proximity to KSEB installations.
  • Safe handling procedures for electrical connections, household appliances, and external infrastructure.
  • Educating the public on common risks and correct practices to minimize accidents.

Officials Behind the Initiative

The launch ceremony saw the presence of key officials who will spearhead the campaign. Notable attendees included KSEBL safety wing director Surendran P, public relations officer Reshma Eldose, executive engineer Asha T V, and NSS Thiruvananthapuram project coordinator Biju. Their collective presence underscores the coordinated approach between the power utility and the educational volunteer scheme.

This statewide educational campaign represents a proactive step by the Kerala government and KSEBL to build a culture of safety from the ground up, aiming to protect citizens, especially the youth, from the dangers of electrical mishaps.
