The long-awaited first general body meeting of the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) after a five-year hiatus descended into utter chaos and disorder on Wednesday. The session was marred by aggressive confrontations between ruling and opposition factions, with a major standoff erupting over the conspicuous absence of the municipal secretary from the proceedings.
Municipal Secretary's Absence Sparks Immediate Confrontation
The tension ignited the moment the meeting commenced, as opposition members grew visibly agitated upon noticing that municipal secretary Sunil Bidre was missing from the assembly hall. When Bidre finally arrived late, leader of the opposition Rajesh Latkar launched a vehement protest, insisting the secretary had forfeited his right to take his seat and demanding immediate suspension.
"All corporators have been waiting patiently since morning. Does the municipal secretary not comprehend the importance of time and protocol? This negligence is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated," declared Latkar forcefully. Ruling Mahayuti corporator Jayant Patil acknowledged the validity of the opposition's grievance, offering assurances that such administrative lapses would not be repeated in future sessions.
