Kolkata Weather: Mercury to Rise, Rain Chances Decrease

Kolkata experienced a reprieve from heat and humidity last week due to a series of thundershowers that kept temperatures in check. However, the weather is set to change as the mercury is expected to rise in the coming days, with reduced chances of rain. According to sources at the Alipore weather office, most thundershower activity will now shift to north Bengal, while the likelihood of rain in south Bengal, including Kolkata, becomes low.

Temperature Trends

Last Thursday, the maximum temperature dipped to as low as 30 degrees Celsius, coinciding with nearly 50 mm of rainfall in the city. Although rainfall amounts in the next two to three days are not expected to be significant, gusty winds and partly cloudy skies have continued to shield Kolkata from the scorching sun. This has kept temperatures relatively moderate despite a gradual rise in the mercury.

On Tuesday, the maximum temperature was recorded at 34.6 degrees Celsius, still below the normal mark. The minimum temperature stood at 26.3 degrees Celsius, also slightly below normal. A meteorologist from the Alipore weather office stated, "We can expect a slight rise in mercury, but the maximum temperature is likely to stay around the normal mark. Hence, despite slight discomfort, the weather will still be tolerable."

What to Expect

Residents can anticipate a gradual increase in temperature over the next few days, but extreme heat is not expected. The weather will remain generally tolerable, with occasional gusty winds and partly cloudy skies. Rain activity is likely to be minimal in Kolkata, while north Bengal may experience more thundershowers.

For those planning outdoor activities, it is advisable to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during peak hours. The weather is expected to remain stable, with no major heatwave conditions forecasted in the near term.
