BRS working president K T Rama Rao on Monday termed the 30 months of Congress rule in Telangana as a disaster, alleging that the party came to power through false promises and has failed to implement its guarantees. Speaking at a meet-the-press programme in Hyderabad, he accused the state government of deceiving farmers, youth, employees, women, and other sections of society.
KTR slams Congress government's performance
Rama Rao criticised the Congress government, stating that it has pushed Telangana into decline after a decade of rapid progress under former chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao. “Telangana achieved remarkable progress under KCR’s leadership in agriculture, irrigation, drinking water, education, healthcare, welfare, and industrial growth. However, the state has witnessed policy paralysis and governance failures since Congress came to power,” he said.
Financial management under scrutiny
Referring to the financial management of the Revanth Reddy government, KTR said it has collapsed and claimed that recent RBI data exposed the Congress party's allegations regarding the previous government's debt. “The CAG and other data show that the BRS government’s borrowings were only Rs 2.8 lakh crore in nine years. But Congress leaders spread lies stating borrowings of Rs 8 lakh crore to even Rs 10 lakh crore, defaming the BRS government,” he added.
Allegations of collusion with Centre
KTR also accused both the Congress government and the BJP-led Centre of working in tandem against Telangana’s interests. Describing the Revanth Reddy government as a “hybrid government” or “Modi-Revanth partnership government,” he alleged that attempts are being made to weaken the state’s successful free power policy for farmers through the proposed “Rythu power discom” model.
Confident of BRS revival
Expressing confidence about the party’s future, KTR declared that if elections were held now, BRS would win more than 90 assembly seats. He predicted that Revanth Reddy would face defeat in Kodangal in the next election and challenged the chief minister to seek fresh public approval through by-elections involving defected legislators.
Warning on Hyderabad's status
On rumours that the Centre would invoke Section 8 of the AP Reorganization Act, 2014, and make Hyderabad a union territory, the BRS leader said if that happens, the party would take up another agitation. He also said the BRS would launch an agitation if southern states were meted out injustice or faced a reduction in seats.
Commitment to farmers
Reiterating BRS’s commitment to farmers, KTR warned that any move to dilute free electricity would face strong public opposition. He alleged that Revanth Reddy has historically opposed free power for agriculture and is now implementing policies that could ultimately burden farmers. He also criticised the government’s handling of the Future City project, alleging that it is being used for real-estate interests. He announced that a future BRS government would review and cancel the project.
KCR as trump card
Referring to BRS President K Chandrashekar Rao, KTR described him as the party’s “trump card” and asserted that KCR would return to actively lead the fight against what he called Congress misrule.
