BRS Leader KT Rama Rao Urges Centre to Tackle LPG Crisis with Urgent Measures

In a significant development from Hyderabad, BRS working president KT Rama Rao has called upon the central government to take immediate and decisive action to restore LPG supplies across India. The severe shortage of both commercial and domestic LPG cylinders is crippling essential services and threatening the livelihoods of countless individuals.

Letter to Union Minister Highlights Widespread Impact

In a detailed letter addressed to Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Thursday, KTR emphasized the critical nature of the disruption. He highlighted that hotels, eateries, PG hostels, and small food businesses are bearing the brunt of this crisis. The BRS leader warned that without prompt intervention, thousands of these establishments could face forced closures, leading to severe hardship for lakhs of workers and students who depend on them for daily sustenance and accommodation.

Proposed Solutions to Mitigate the Crisis

To address this pressing issue, KT Rama Rao proposed a comprehensive set of practical measures aimed at stabilizing the situation and protecting vulnerable sectors.

KTR suggested the introduction of a tiered LPG allocation system. This innovative approach would ensure that small vendors and vulnerable businesses receive priority in the distribution of LPG cylinders, thereby safeguarding their operations during the shortage.

He also recommended the creation of a real-time public dashboard. This tool would provide transparent and up-to-date information on LPG cylinder availability across various districts, helping businesses and consumers plan accordingly and reducing uncertainty.

In his letter, KTR urged the Centre to implement a temporary price freeze on commercial LPG cylinders. This measure is designed to prevent additional financial burdens on small businesses already struggling due to the crisis. Additionally, he called for strict action against black marketing activities, where domestic LPG cylinders are illegally diverted for commercial use and sold at inflated prices, exacerbating the shortage.

Special Protection for Critical Services

KT Rama Rao also emphasized the need for special protection for certain essential services. He requested that PG hostels located in IT corridor areas, which house lakhs of students and employees, be classified under a special category to ensure uninterrupted LPG supply. Furthermore, he stressed that gas-based crematoriums must be recognized as essential services, ensuring their operations are not disrupted due to the LPG shortage, which is crucial for maintaining dignity in final rites.

The BRS leader's proactive stance underscores the urgency of the situation and the need for coordinated efforts between state and central authorities to resolve the LPG crisis and protect the economy and daily life across the nation.
