KTR vs Congress Ministers in Telangana Assembly Over Promises

War of Words Erupts in Telangana Assembly Over Unfulfilled Promises

Hyderabad witnessed a fiery political confrontation on Tuesday as BRS working president KT Rama Rao engaged in a sharp exchange with Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka and several Congress ministers during the assembly session. The debate centered on the implementation of key election guarantees and allegations of unfulfilled commitments from both sides.

KTR Challenges Government on Loan Waivers and Missing Files

During his speech on the motion of thanks to the governor's address, KT Rama Rao launched a scathing attack on the Congress government's performance. He specifically challenged the administration to demonstrate even one village, including Chief Minister Revanth Reddy's native Kondareddypalle, that had received a complete agricultural loan waiver as promised.

The BRS leader raised serious concerns about a missing document, demanding an immediate investigation into the disappearance of the six-guarantee file that was reportedly signed by the chief minister and cleared by the cabinet two and a half years earlier. "What happened to that file, and where is the file signed by the CM, granting legal status to the six guarantees?" KTR questioned, insisting that a special investigation team must be constituted to trace this crucial document.

Comprehensive Critique of Government Programs

KTR presented a detailed critique covering multiple aspects of governance. He highlighted issues including:

  • Inadequate implementation of the six guarantees promised during elections
  • Questionable IT investment strategies and economic growth claims
  • Delayed payments under the Rythu Bharosa farmer support scheme
  • Insufficient support for women's self-help groups
  • Unresolved employee benefits and overseas scholarship programs

The opposition leader accused the governor's speech of lacking credibility due to numerous unfulfilled promises. He specifically called for adequate funding for pre-election commitments including ₹2,500 financial assistance to women, enhancement of monthly pensions to ₹4,000, and revival of popular schemes like KCR Kits and the gold-to-brides program, even suggesting they could be renamed after Congress leaders.

Congress Ministers Counter with Their Own Allegations

Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka launched a counter-offensive, accusing the previous BRS government of failing to deliver on its own promises. He highlighted unfulfilled commitments including:

  1. The promise of 2-BHK houses for all eligible families
  2. Assurance of one job per household
  3. Commitment to make a Dalit the chief minister
  4. Free land distribution to Dalit communities

In contrast, Vikramarka emphasized the current government's achievements, particularly the sanctioning of ₹5 lakh per house and the initiation of Indiramma housing construction. He noted that 4.5 lakh houses are being built in the first phase, with ₹22,500 crore allocated in a single tranche for this housing initiative, which he described as a national record.

Additional Ministerial Responses and Allegations

R&B Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy pointed out that the BRS had made similar unfulfilled promises before the 2014 elections, including the Dalit CM commitment and three acres for each Dalit family. He explained that loan waivers took several years to implement due to financial constraints, and revealed that the Congress government had repaid approximately ₹3.25 lakh crore on loans taken during the BRS regime.

Panchayat Raj Minister D Anasuya (Seethakka) accused the previous administration of burdening the current government with ₹3,000 crore in interest payments because the BRS government failed to pay interest on 'Pavala Vaddi' loans taken by women's self-help groups over ten years.

Employment Statistics Become Battleground

KTR challenged the government's claim of providing 67,000 jobs in the past two years, asserting that the Congress administration had actually issued notifications for only 11,921 positions. He clarified that while the BRS government had issued the job notifications, the Congress government was merely distributing appointment letters for those positions.

The BRS leader also highlighted a tragic human cost, revealing that approximately 80 retired employees had died without receiving their post-retirement benefits. He further criticized government programs that he claimed revolved excessively around land issues, specifically mentioning Future City, Kanche-Gachibowli, MANUU, and Visakha Sharada Peetham land parcels in Kokapet.

The assembly session revealed deep political divisions and competing narratives about governance achievements and failures, setting the stage for continued political confrontation in Telangana.
