Land Dispute Leads to Fatal Shooting in Dumka Village

A 45-year-old man was allegedly shot dead over a long-standing land dispute in Dumka district's Chhota Udali village on Thursday night, police said.

Incident Details

Sitaram Hembrom, also known as Jalka Hembrom, was killed when Jetha Hembrom, a resident of Bada Udali village, allegedly opened fire at his house around 9 pm. According to the victim's wife, Meeru Marandi, the accused demanded liquor and opened fire when refused.

Meeru told police that the two families were locked in a dispute over a piece of land, which led the accused to shoot her husband in the head from point blank range before fleeing.

Police Investigation

A police team arrived at the scene around 1 am, investigated the scene, and sent the body to Sahibganj Sadar Hospital for post-mortem examination.

"An FIR has been registered against the absconding accused, with efforts underway to nab him," ASI Asim Kujur said, adding the investigation was underway.

The incident highlights the ongoing issue of land disputes leading to violent crimes in rural areas. Authorities are working to apprehend the suspect and bring him to justice.
