The Left Democratic Front (LDF) has presented its comprehensive election manifesto for the upcoming Eloor municipality polls, emphasizing a continuation of its governance model with an enhanced focus on developmental projects. The manifesto, which builds on a record of receiving more than 14 awards for exemplary governance, outlines a detailed vision across 14 core sectors aimed at transforming civic life.
Building on a Foundation of Awards and Cleanliness
Releasing the document, Eloor municipality chairman A D Sujil pointed to the council's recent achievements as a springboard for future plans. He credited the transformation of the city's appearance to the dedicated efforts of the Haritha Karma Sena, sanitation workers, and various beautification drives. This established track record forms the backbone of the LDF's promise of continuity and accelerated progress.
Key Promises: Energy, Water, and Agriculture
The manifesto contains several flagship promises designed to directly impact residents' daily lives. A major highlight is the commitment to implement a solar power project for all households, aiming to promote sustainable energy. On the water front, with the completion of the Manjummal drinking water project, the LDF vows to upgrade supply lines with modern PVC pipelines. For areas facing scarcity, the manifesto assures daily drinking water distribution of 1,000 litres through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
In the agricultural sector, the front pledges to expand paddy cultivation to 100 acres within the municipality. Addressing a common urban concern, a special action programme to tackle the stray dog issue has also been promised.
Boosting Education, Culture, and Public Services
The LDF's plan for Eloor places significant emphasis on upgrading educational and cultural infrastructure. Major public libraries are set to receive digital facilities, while each ward will get mini-libraries and online access to reading materials. To support youth, the manifesto proposes free coaching for competitive examinations.
In the schooling sector, facilities in four government schools will be expanded. The construction of a higher secondary school complex and sports complex in schools will be completed on schedule. In a notable move, the Pathalam government school will be converted into a dedicated sports school.
Other civic promises include the promotion of lake tourism, the introduction of swimming training facilities, and steps to make the KSMART governance system more accessible to the public, ensuring easier access to municipal services.
The manifesto, therefore, presents a multi-pronged approach seeking to blend infrastructure development with social welfare, education, and environmental sustainability, asking voters for a renewed mandate based on its past performance and future blueprint.
