The Loliem-Polem gram sabha, held on Sunday, unanimously opposed the construction of multi-dwelling units such as residential complexes, commercial blocks, hotels, and other large projects. Villagers raised objections in response to an application received by the panchayat from a Mapusa-based real estate company seeking a license to construct 36 villas and a swimming pool behind the S S Angle Higher Secondary School at Dapot.
Resolution Against Mega Projects
The gram sabha directed the panchayat to write to the deputy town planner and the district deputy collector to enforce the resolution. Villagers emphasized that the panchayat should ensure the demand is implemented and, if necessary, approach the highest court to stop mega projects in the village.
Pre-Monsoon Preparations
Several villagers requested the panchayat to desilt all rivulets before the monsoons to prevent silt deposition in paddy fields. Additionally, they urged timely completion of other pre-monsoon works, including cleaning of drainages and gutters, to avoid waterlogging.
Dog Shelter Discussion
A discussion about establishing a dog shelter took place, with some residents requesting the panchayat to identify land for the purpose. Sarpanch Nisha Chari stated that setting up a dog shelter is not feasible at this juncture, even if land is donated, as the panchayat lacks both manpower and finances to run it. She noted that the panchayat has written to the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services but has not received a response.
Annual Budget Passed
The annual budget was proposed and passed during the gram sabha.
