Lucknow's Major Green Corridor Project Enters Next Phase with March 13 Inauguration
Commuters in Lucknow are set to experience significantly smoother journeys between the city's western and eastern sectors as the second crucial portion of the ambitious Green Corridor project is scheduled for inauguration on March 13. This development marks a substantial advancement in the city's urban infrastructure, promising enhanced connectivity and reduced travel times for thousands of daily motorists.
High-Profile Inauguration and Project Specifications
The inauguration ceremony will be a notable event, graced by Lucknow Member of Parliament and Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, alongside Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The newly completed stretch extends over approximately 5.1 kilometers, specifically connecting Bhikhampur to Daliganj. Once operational, this four-lane carriageway will facilitate a more efficient route between Samta Mulak crossing in Gomtinagar and the Jehta locality in Kakori, effectively bridging key areas of the city.
Substantial Travel Time Reduction and Immediate Benefits
Officials project that the new corridor will slash travel duration between these endpoints by an impressive 15 to 20 minutes, a welcome relief for commuters facing daily congestion. Prathmesh Kumar, Vice-Chairman of the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA), emphasized that this phase will directly alleviate traffic pressures in several congested zones, including Daliganj, Hazratganj, and Nishatganj. "The second portion is strategically designed to ease existing traffic congestion in these critical areas," Kumar stated, highlighting the project's targeted impact on urban mobility.
Temporary Challenges and Long-Term Vision
However, authorities caution that initial operations may present some transitional challenges. Vehicles utilizing the new Green Corridor carriageway will merge with existing traffic flows, potentially creating bottlenecks and conflicts at key junctions such as Nishatganj and Bikhampur. These issues are expected to persist until comprehensive traffic-calming measures are fully implemented. Despite these short-term hurdles, the long-term outlook remains highly positive.
Broader Project Scope and Future Phases
The Green Corridor initiative is part of a much larger vision. When fully completed, the entire project will span a total of 28.3 kilometers, creating a seamless traffic artery from IIM Road to Kisan Path along the Gomti River. From Kisan Path, commuters can access Faizabad Road at Chinhat by covering an additional distance of roughly 7 kilometers. This connectivity will ultimately enable uninterrupted movement between Jehta, a village near IIM Road, and Faizabad Road, transforming cross-city travel.
An LDA senior officer elaborated on the project's comprehensive scale, noting, "The entire Green Corridor will integrate key pathways, significantly enhancing Lucknow's transportation network." Furthermore, preparatory work for subsequent phases is already underway, with construction teams actively establishing an embankment along the Gomti between Shaheed Path and Pipara Ghat, indicating steady progress toward the project's ultimate completion.
This infrastructure enhancement not only addresses immediate traffic concerns but also lays the groundwork for sustained urban development, positioning Lucknow for improved economic and social connectivity in the years ahead.
