Maharashtra Chief Minister Clarifies Farm Loan Waiver Details, Dismisses Speculation
In Nagpur on Saturday, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis provided crucial clarifications regarding the state's proposed farm loan waiver, aiming to dispel widespread rumors and ensure transparency for farmers. He firmly stated that the waiver will cover crop loans up to ₹2 lakh taken from any bank legally authorized to provide agricultural credit, emphasizing that no legitimate lending institutions would be excluded.
Direct Benefit to Farmers, Not Banks
The loan waiver should benefit the farmer and not the bank, Fadnavis told reporters during the press interaction. He directly addressed circulating rumors suggesting that the scheme might exclude loans from nationalized banks, district cooperative banks, or other lending institutions, labeling these claims as incorrect and misleading.

Implementation Timeline and Committee Work
Fadnavis reiterated that the government had already announced the loan waiver in the state budget, with the implementation process set to begin shortly. Earlier, we said the loan waiver will be implemented before June 30. Now that it was announced in the budget, the process will begin, he explained. A dedicated committee is currently working on the finer details and will communicate the remaining aspects to ensure a smooth rollout.
He expressed confidence in the scheme's design, stating, I will only say this much. This loan waiver will be better than any other, highlighting the government's commitment to providing meaningful relief to farmers across Maharashtra.
Industrial Development and Infrastructure Projects
Earlier in the day, Fadnavis attended the inauguration of an XSIO industrial park and the groundbreaking ceremony for a plug-and-play manufacturing facility in Nagpur. He emphasized that this project would support advanced manufacturing sectors and strengthen India's role in global supply chains, showcasing the state's broader economic development efforts.
Major Budget Allocations for Vidarbha
Referring to the state budget, the Chief Minister highlighted significant allocations aimed at benefiting the Vidarbha region. He particularly spotlighted the Wainganga–Nalganga irrigation project, for which the government has allocated ₹95,000 crore. It's the biggest river-linking project in our history. We gave administrative approval and its announcement was made in the budget, Fadnavis said, adding that this initiative could transform irrigation and agriculture in Vidarbha, potentially serving as a game-changer for the area.
Call for Responsible Media Reporting
Fadnavis also urged the media to avoid creating unnecessary panic among citizens over speculative reports on sensitive issues such as shortages of LPG cylinders and increases in fuel prices. He assured that the central government is closely monitoring these situations and providing regular updates to maintain public confidence.
