Maharashtra Government Approves Major Land Transfer for New Industrial Estate in Indapur
The Maharashtra state government has given its official approval for the transfer of a substantial 1,000-acre land parcel located in the Ratnapuri estate of Indapur to the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC). This strategic move is designed to facilitate the establishment of a brand-new industrial estate, with the primary objectives of stimulating local entrepreneurship and significantly strengthening the rural economy across the region.
Boosting Investment and Employment in Pune District
In an official statement, the government emphasized that this pivotal decision is expected to catalyze industrial investment specifically in the Indapur and Baramati areas. The project is projected to generate substantial employment opportunities, actively encourage local entrepreneurial ventures, and provide a robust foundation for enhancing the rural economic landscape. The decision was formally finalized during a cabinet meeting held shortly after Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Ajit Pawar assumed her new office.
Deputy CM Sunetra Pawar elaborated on the significance of the land allocation, stating, "This land allocation is not merely an administrative decision but a step towards fulfilling the vision of late Ajitdada, who shared a deep bond with Indapur and its people. It was his dream that the youth should get employment opportunities and that the region should witness development through industrial growth."
Strategic Location and Expansion Plans
The proposed industrial estate boasts a highly strategic location. It is situated in close proximity to the established Walchandnagar industrial zone, which is renowned for housing Walchandnagar Industries—a major player specializing in precision manufacturing for critical sectors including aerospace, defence, and sugar plant machinery. Additionally, the site is approximately 30 kilometers from the Baramati industrial area, a hub for diverse industries ranging from automotive manufacturing to advanced food processing.
The land transferred was previously under the jurisdiction of the Maharashtra State Agriculture Corporation. The acquisition process has been phased:
- Initially, MIDC sought state approval to acquire 135 hectares (approximately 333 acres) spread across three villages within the Ratnapuri area.
- Of this initial request, MIDC successfully received 131 hectares in July of this year.
- The remaining 65 hectares are still pending final approval and transfer.
- Subsequently, recognizing the zone's potential, MIDC has requested an additional 600 hectares to further expand the planned industrial area, indicating ambitious future growth plans.
Additional Development: Baramati Sports Complex Approved
In the same inaugural cabinet meeting, Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar also secured approval for another significant development project. The cabinet cleared the establishment of a new sports complex to be set up at Katfal village in Baramati. The project has received an estimated financial outlay of Rs 75.13 crore and will be developed on a land parcel spanning approximately 70,000 square meters. This initiative underscores the government's parallel focus on infrastructure and community development alongside industrial growth.
