Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis made a striking declaration about Maharashtra's economic standing during a public address on Saturday. He asserted that if Maharashtra were an independent nation, its impressive growth trajectory would position it as the world's 30th largest economy. Surpassing International Economies
Fadnavis elaborated that Maharashtra's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is projected to outpace established economies such as the United Arab Emirates and Singapore. He emphasized that numerous countries are already trailing behind Maharashtra in terms of economic growth metrics. This comparison highlights the state's robust economic performance and its potential to compete with sovereign nations.
Groundbreaking Ceremony for Green Steel Plant
The Chief Minister delivered these remarks at the groundbreaking ceremony for an innovative green steel plant in Bhadravati town, located within the Chandrapur district. This facility, being constructed by Greta Energy, will utilize advanced coal gasification technology. Fadnavis highlighted the dual benefits of this project, noting it will not only manufacture pollution-free products but also contribute significantly to India's energy security.
Coal gasification is increasingly viewed as a viable alternative to traditional petroleum and natural gas resources, offering a cleaner method of energy production while utilizing domestic coal reserves.
Transforming Gadchiroli into a Steel Hub
Fadnavis revealed ambitious plans for the Gadchiroli region, which is emerging as a major steel production center. The state government has secured investment proposals totaling an astounding Rs 3 lakh crore for steel plants across Gadchiroli, Bhandara, and Gondia districts. These massive industrial projects are expected to generate approximately one lakh jobs, providing substantial employment opportunities for local residents.
During the ceremony, the Chief Minister specifically urged project promoters to prioritize local employment, requesting that 80% of the workforce be sourced from the surrounding communities. "I will personally monitor the employment of local individuals when the plant becomes operational," Fadnavis stated firmly.
Government Support and Regulatory Assurance
The Chief Minister offered strong assurances to investors, promising full governmental support for their projects provided they adhere to established norms and regulations. He addressed potential concerns about bureaucratic hurdles, stating that if any local leaders create unnecessary obstacles, promoters should report directly to law enforcement. "I will ensure such individuals face legal consequences," Fadnavis declared, emphasizing his commitment to facilitating smooth project implementation.
Emphasis on Domestic Energy Resources
Earlier in the event, Union Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy highlighted India's substantial coal reserves, which are estimated to last for approximately 60 years. While acknowledging that some groups oppose coal mining expansion, Reddy stressed that valuable underground resources should not remain untapped. He advocated for innovative approaches like coal gasification to maximize the utility of these domestic energy assets.
Addressing Domestic Gas Concerns
In a separate interaction with reporters, Chief Minister Fadnavis addressed concerns about domestic cooking gas availability. He firmly stated that there is no shortage of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for household use in India. Fadnavis accused the opposition Congress party of deliberately creating panic and spreading misinformation to unsettle citizens. "The government has repeatedly clarified that sufficient cooking gas exists for domestic purposes, yet Congress continues to build a false narrative to provoke public unrest," he asserted.
