A 31-year-old man succumbed to injuries after being allegedly assaulted over a trivial Rs 10 dispute in Nawada district, sparking tension and protests in the Nardiganj police station area on Thursday. The incident occurred on Tuesday night when the victim, Deepu Kumar, a resident of Nichli Bazar, went to purchase household items at a grocery shop owned by Mohammad Arman. An argument broke out over a payment discrepancy: Deepu claimed he had paid Rs 20, while the shopkeeper insisted it was Rs 10. The altercation escalated, and Arman allegedly struck Deepu with a heavy iron object, causing him to collapse.
Victim Succumbs to Injuries
Deepu was rushed to Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) in critical condition, where he died late Wednesday night. He was the sole breadwinner of his family and is survived by his wife and six children.
Protests and Police Response
Following the death, angry locals blocked roads and set fires in the Nardiganj area, disrupting traffic for several hours. A heavy police deployment was made to control the situation. Nawada Superintendent of Police Abhinav Dhiman visited the spot and held a peace committee meeting with residents. Sadar Sub-Divisional Officer Amit Anuraj and Sub-Divisional Police Officer Rahul Singh monitored the situation closely.
Nardiganj Station House Officer Rajesh Kumar confirmed that a First Information Report has been registered against seven named accused. Three individuals have been arrested, and efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining suspects. The police are maintaining a strong presence to prevent further unrest.
