A tragic accident occurred in Ahmedabad on Sunday morning when an iron barricade collapsed onto an autorickshaw, resulting in the death of a 46-year-old man and injuries to three others. The incident took place around 9:15 am on SG Highway in the Makarba area.
Details of the Accident
According to police officials, the autorickshaw overturned after being struck by the heavy iron barricade. The deceased has been identified as Ajay Mahto, a laborer originally from Bihar. The injured individuals are Ranjan Mandal, Dinesh Mandal, and Sanjeev Dhanur, all of whom were occupants of the autorickshaw.
Cause of the Incident
Preliminary investigations suggest that strong wind pressure generated by a passing bus caused one of the iron barricades placed at a nearby flyover construction site to fall onto the moving autorickshaw. The impact was severe enough to overturn the vehicle.
Response and Rescue Efforts
Local residents rushed to the scene to assist the victims and promptly alerted the 108 ambulance service and police. Medical personnel arrived quickly but declared Ajay Mahto dead at the scene. The three injured individuals were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, where their condition is reported to be stable.
Legal Proceedings
A case of accidental death has been registered at the local police station. Authorities have launched a detailed investigation to determine if there was any negligence involved in the placement of the barricades. Further inquiries are underway to ensure such incidents are prevented in the future.
