Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann Condemns Shiromani Akali Dal and Sukhbir Singh Badal

In a sharp rebuke, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Friday launched a scathing attack on the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), asserting that the party has been thoroughly rejected by the people and now stands exposed in the divine court of God. Speaking to mediapersons in New Delhi, Mann did not mince words as he criticized the opposition party for its perceived failures and contradictions.

Mann Criticizes SAD Chief Sukhbir Singh Badal's Conduct

Mann specifically targeted SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal, highlighting what he described as contradictory behavior. He pointed out that after Badal sought forgiveness at the Akal Takht, the supreme temporal seat of Sikhism, he later attempted to downplay his own statements, undermining the sanctity of the institution.

Emphasizing the authority of the Akal Takht, Mann stated, "Every Punjabi in general and Sikhs in particular bow their heads before the Akal Takht Sahib and obey every order from it as the final authority." He urged Badal to adhere to established religious traditions, saying, "If Akali Dal leader Sukhbir Singh Badal committed any mistake, he must admit it before the Akal Takht Sahib, as per the established religious traditions and principles, instead of undermining its authority."

Special Punjab Assembly Session Convened on Baisakhi

In a significant announcement, Chief Minister Mann revealed that a special session of the Punjab Legislative Assembly has been convened on Baisakhi, a major Sikh festival. The primary agenda of this session is to amend the Jagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Act, 2008, which pertains to the reverence and protection of the Sikh holy scripture.

Mann issued a stern warning against sacrilege, declaring, "Anyone daring to attempt sacrilege will face the strictest punishment, with a minimum of 10 years in jail." This move aims to strengthen legal provisions to deter and penalize acts of desecration against the Guru Granth Sahib.

Consultations Underway for Proposed Amendments

To ensure the amendments are comprehensive and widely accepted, Mann disclosed that consultations are being actively held with the Sant Samaj, a collective of Sikh religious leaders, and legal luminaries. These discussions are focused on refining the proposed changes to be introduced during the special assembly session, balancing religious sentiments with legal frameworks.

The Chief Minister's statements underscore a firm stance on both political accountability and religious integrity, as Punjab prepares for this pivotal legislative action on Baisakhi.
