Masked Raiders Target UP Board Exam Center in Jaunpur, Steal Surveillance Cameras
In a brazen incident that has raised serious concerns about exam security, masked miscreants raided a Uttar Pradesh Board examination center in Jaunpur district on Sunday night. The targeted site was Horil Rao Inter College located in the Pawara area, where the thieves specifically stole two CCTV cameras installed to monitor activities during the ongoing board examinations.
Details of the Theft and Police Investigation
According to official reports from the Pawara police station, the theft occurred when the accused bypassed security measures designed to prevent cheating during the crucial exam period. Jaunpur's Pawara police station in-charge Anil Kumar confirmed on Tuesday that two CCTV cameras were stolen: one positioned at the main entrance gate of the college and another inside the staff room. The thieves gained entry by breaking through a ventilator, leaving it damaged when they fled.
Police are actively investigating the case and are relying on footage captured by other surveillance cameras installed across the college campus to identify and apprehend the suspects. "Based on the footage captured by other cameras, we are working to identify and nab the accused," stated Anil Kumar, emphasizing the priority of the investigation.
Response from Education Officials and School Management
UP Board secretary Bhagwati Singh addressed the incident, assuring that all critical exam materials remain secure. "All the exam-related material, including the question papers and answer sheets, kept in the strong room are safe," he told TOI. Singh also noted that the center administration has promptly replaced the stolen cameras to restore surveillance capabilities.
The theft was discovered on Monday morning when college staff arrived for exam preparation and found the broken ventilator and missing cameras. The school management immediately alerted the police, suspecting that the thieves specifically targeted the CCTV system to disrupt exam monitoring, as no other items were touched or stolen during the raid.
Implications for Exam Security and Ongoing Measures
This incident highlights vulnerabilities in exam security protocols, particularly in rural areas like Jaunpur. Authorities are reviewing measures to prevent such breaches in the future, including:
- Enhancing physical security at examination centers.
- Increasing the number of surveillance cameras in strategic locations.
- Conducting regular checks and maintenance of security equipment.
As the investigation continues, police are urging anyone with information to come forward to help ensure the integrity of the board examinations and maintain public trust in the education system.
