Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya Conducts Comprehensive Review of Varanasi Development Initiatives
In a significant move to accelerate progress in Uttar Pradesh, Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya conducted a thorough assessment of ongoing development projects and government schemes in Varanasi on Friday. The review meeting focused on ensuring high standards, fostering teamwork, and promoting speedy, transparent, and quality-driven execution of works across the district.
Emphasis on Rural Development and PM Modi's Vision
During the session, Maurya underscored the critical importance of effectively implementing rural development schemes, aligning closely with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's overarching vision of "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas and Sabka Prayas". He reiterated the state government's unwavering commitment to the economic, educational, and social upliftment of rural communities, calling for coordinated efforts among all departments.
"Our goal is to realize the resolve of women empowerment, Aatmanirbhar Bharat, and Viksit Bharat through collective action," Maurya stated, highlighting the need for integrated approaches to drive sustainable growth.
Major Boost for Self-Help Groups and Women Empowerment
A key highlight of the meeting was the Deputy CM's directive to significantly enhance the empowerment of Self-Help Groups (SHGs). Maurya instructed officials to increase the annual target for transforming SHG didis (sisters) into lakhpati didis (women earning lakhs) from 1 lakh to an ambitious 3 lakh per year. This move aims to substantially boost financial independence and entrepreneurship among women in rural areas.
According to the Chief Development Officer of Varanasi, approximately 1.48 lakh SHG didis are currently active in the district, providing a strong foundation for this expanded initiative.
Focus on Inclusive Housing and Welfare Schemes
Maurya laid special emphasis on inclusivity, directing that special camps be organized in gram panchayats to ensure eligible divyang (differently-abled) individuals and widows are covered under housing schemes. To streamline the process, he mandated the presence of the Chief Medical Officer at these camps to verify beneficiaries, ensuring transparency and efficiency in implementation.
Innovative Employment Opportunities Through Baraat Ghars
In a bid to create sustainable employment opportunities, the Deputy CM instructed that baraat ghars (wedding halls) in the district be managed by SHGs. This initiative is designed to provide women with steady income sources while enhancing community infrastructure. Officials were directed to:
- Fix reasonable rents for events to ensure smooth operations and accessibility.
- Identify suitable sites for baraat ghars in gram panchayats.
- Utilize Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds for construction, leveraging private sector support for public welfare.
Ensuring Timely and Quality-Driven Development Works
Maurya stressed the importance of utilizing the current financial year's budget effectively, urging officials to complete all development works on schedule without compromising on quality. Additionally, he issued a directive to process proposals under the Vidhan Mandal Kshetra Vikas Nidhi within 45 days, aiming to reduce bureaucratic delays and accelerate project approvals.
"Transparency and accountability are paramount in our efforts to build a developed and self-reliant Bharat," Maurya concluded, reinforcing the government's dedication to holistic and inclusive growth in Varanasi and beyond.
