A serious incident involving a municipal corporation employee and a local political functionary has sparked concerns in Ludhiana. A formal complaint has been lodged with the Municipal Commissioner alleging assault and threats against an on-duty official.
Alleged Assault at Rose Garden
The complainant, Ajay Kumar, who serves as the circle in-charge at the city's popular Rose Garden, has accused Inderjit Singh "Indie" of a brazen attack. Singh is the husband of a sitting Congress councillor. The incident occurred on Friday morning while Kumar was performing his official duties.
According to the complaint, the confrontation began when the Congress leader arrived at the park and immediately started shouting at Kumar in front of other staff members and visitors. The situation quickly escalated, with the accused allegedly using abusive language and obstructing the employee from his work.
Serious Threats and Past Allegations
In his written statement, Ajay Kumar raised alarming allegations about his safety and that of his colleagues. He claimed that Inderjit Singh and his assistant threatened to kill him. The complaint further details a pattern of intimidation.
Kumar alleged that the accused had previously been involved in the kidnapping of a contract worker. Another serious claim states that Singh threatened to "throw another employee into a canal." These allegations paint a troubling picture of the risks faced by municipal staff.
Calls for Action and Official Response
The situation was reportedly defused only after another MC officer, Kripal Singh, intervened to separate the two men. Following the altercation, Ajay Kumar has urgently appealed to the MC Commissioner for immediate legal action.
His primary demands include ensuring his safety during work hours and holding the accused accountable. At the time the report was filed, Inderjit Singh Indie could not be reached for comment to respond to the allegations.
Municipal authorities have confirmed they are currently reviewing the complaint in detail. A decision on pursuing further administrative action or involving the police is pending this review. The case highlights ongoing tensions and the challenges faced by public servants in the line of duty.
