Maharashtra MLA Issues Directives for Flawless Flood Control Project Execution
In a significant development for flood-prone regions of Maharashtra, State Planning Commission Chairman and MLA Rajesh Kshirsagar issued firm instructions to civic officials on Saturday, demanding comprehensive implementation of the Maharashtra Resilience Development Project (MRDP) in Kolhapur and Sangli districts.

The crucial review session, chaired by Kshirsagar, convened at the Kolhapur district collectorate with participation from key administrative figures. Attendees included Kolhapur Municipal Commissioner K Manjulekshmi, Sangli Municipal Commissioner Satyam Gandhi, Kolhapur Municipal Corporation Additional Commissioner Ravikant Adsul, and Kolhapur Resident Deputy Collector Gajanan Gurav.
"The MRDP, a World Bank-funded initiative, is being executed for Kolhapur and Sangli districts through the state's NITI Aayog and MITRA (Maharashtra Institution for Transformation)," emphasized Kshirsagar. "There must be absolutely no loopholes in this critical flood control project. Cities like Kolhapur, Sangli, and Ichalkaranji experience severe flood impacts, and our objective is to substantially reduce their intensity when they occur."
Detailed Assessment of Flood-Prone Infrastructure
During the comprehensive briefing, officials presented detailed data about drainage systems in Sangli, Ichalkaranji, and Kolhapur cities that are vulnerable to flooding. The assessment specifically highlighted how many of these drainage channels pose direct threats to human life within urban settlements.
In response to these findings, Kshirsagar assured that necessary financial resources would be allocated through MITRA to prevent floodwaters from inundating urban areas. "The Water Resources Department will coordinate closely with Sangli, Ichalkaranji, and Kolhapur municipalities to implement adequate protective measures," he declared.
Comprehensive Drainage System Development Plan
