Congress Leadership Debate Intensifies as MLA Backs Siddaramaiah for 10-15 Years

The ongoing debate within the Congress party regarding a potential leadership change in Karnataka shows no signs of abating, with party leaders continuing to voice their opinions publicly. In a significant development, Chamaraja MLA K Harishgowda on Friday made a strong statement advocating for Siddaramaiah to continue as chief minister for an extended period of 10 to 15 years.

MLA's Firm Stance on Leadership Continuity

Speaking to reporters in Mysuru, the first-time MLA emphasized that Congress legislators remain fully committed to decisions taken by the party high command. Harishgowda clarified that for him and many others, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, along with AICC leaders Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, and M Mallikarjun Kharge, constitute the party's high command. "For us, Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar are the high command," he stated unequivocally.

As a prominent Vokkaliga community leader, Harishgowda reiterated his position that Siddaramaiah should not only complete the current five-year term but continue leading the state for a much longer duration. "I want Siddaramaiah to continue as chief minister for 10–15 years," he declared, adding substantial weight to the ongoing discussions about leadership stability within the party.

Addressing Concerns About Legislators' Foreign Trips

When questioned about legislators traveling abroad, Harishgowda dismissed the matter as routine rather than exceptional. He revealed that he himself had undertaken a foreign tour approximately six months ago, suggesting such trips are common among elected representatives. "There is no need to attach any special significance to such trips," he asserted, downplaying any potential controversy surrounding legislators' international travel.

The MLA's comments come at a time when the Congress party in Karnataka is navigating internal dynamics and public perceptions. His remarks underscore a desire for continuity in leadership while simultaneously reinforcing party discipline and unity behind decisions made by senior leadership.

This public endorsement from a sitting MLA adds another layer to the complex political discourse surrounding Congress leadership in Karnataka, highlighting both the support for current leadership and the ongoing nature of internal party discussions about future directions.
