In a strong move against prolonged delays in civic development projects, Mohali Mayor Amarjit Singh Jeeti Sidhu has issued a stern one-week ultimatum to contractors and firms responsible for executing various public works across the municipal corporation.
Final Warning to Defaulting Contractors
Through an official written communication addressed to the Municipal Commissioner, the mayor has directed that all works approved in various Finance and Contract Committee meetings must commence within the next seven days without any further excuses or delays. The directive comes as a response to growing public frustration over visible inaction on ground despite work orders being issued months ago.
Mayor Sidhu explicitly stated that if the allotted firms and contractors fail to begin execution within this strict deadline, a formal proposal to blacklist the defaulting contractors will be presented during the next house meeting. This decisive action underscores the corporation's commitment to ensuring public convenience and infrastructure development doesn't suffer due to contractor inaction.
Public Frustration Mounts Over Stalled Projects
The mayor revealed that residents from several wards along with their councillors have repeatedly raised concerns about work orders being issued without any visible progress on the ground. "This growing dissatisfaction has not only slowed down development plans but has also started damaging the credibility of the corporation among the public," Sidhu emphasized.
Significant development projects that have remained in limbo for months include:
- Park development and maintenance work
- Installation of paver blocks
- Curb and channel repair projects
- Regular road repair works
- Construction of yoga sheds
- Completion of Dharamshala facilities
Work orders for most of these projects were issued on March 20, 2025, yet in numerous areas, machinery hasn't been deployed and workers remain conspicuously absent from project sites.
Administrative Crackdown Initiated
The mayor has marked the matter as "top priority" and has demanded immediate on-site commencement of all pending works. Administrative sources confirm that the letter has also been forwarded to the Chief Engineer, directing strict monitoring and responsibility fixing wherever delays persist.
