Mohali MC to Seal Chronic Tax Defaulters' Properties from Jan 7
Mohali MC to seal tax defaulters' properties from Jan 7

The Municipal Corporation of Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, commonly known as Mohali, has announced a stringent crackdown on property owners who have consistently failed to pay their taxes. The civic body will start sealing commercial and industrial properties from January 7, 2026, targeting chronic defaulters with substantial pending dues.

Final Warnings Issued, Three-Day Grace Period

Municipal Commissioner Parminder Pal Singh stated that the corporation has already served sealing notices to the defaulting owners under the relevant legal provisions. He clarified that final warnings have been issued, providing a last opportunity of just three days to clear all outstanding amounts.

"The final warnings have been issued, granting a last window of three days to clear outstanding property tax along with applicable penalty and interest," Commissioner Singh said. He emphasized that the sealing process will commence on January 7 without any further notice for those who fail to comply.

Some Response, But Drive to Continue

Joint Commissioner Jasjit Singh provided an update on the current phase of the enforcement drive. He noted that some defaulters have begun to respond to the heightened action.

"Four property owners or occupiers have approached the office to finalise their property tax assessments, while three have deposited dues amounting to nearly Rs 7 lakh," the Joint Commissioner reported. While appreciating this compliance, he made it clear that the drive is far from over.

Strict Legal Action and Long-Term Aim

The officials cautioned that the corporation will not relent in its efforts. For persistent defaulters, the law provides for severe consequences beyond just sealing.

"Further coercive measures, including sealing and subsequent auction of properties, will be initiated against persistent defaulters as per the law," Joint Commissioner Jasjit Singh added. The primary goal of this drive is to recover legitimate municipal revenue, which is crucial for funding and improving civic infrastructure and public services in Mohali.

The MC has affirmed that this enforcement campaign will continue until all outstanding dues are recovered. Property owners who need clarification or assistance regarding their pending tax liabilities have been advised to contact the property tax branch of the Municipal Corporation in SAS Nagar during official office hours.
