Sidhu Moose Wala's Parents Stage Sit-In Over Police Inaction on Financial Complaint
In a poignant display of frustration, the parents of the late Punjabi rapper Shubhdeep Singh, widely known as Sidhu Moose Wala, staged a sit-in protest outside the office of the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in Mansa on Wednesday. The protest was fueled by anger over what they describe as a complete lack of action on a complaint filed nearly six months ago regarding financial issues related to their son's digital music companies.
Allegations of Financial Mismanagement and Unauthorized Use
Balkaur Singh and Charan Kaur, the aggrieved parents who are also caring for Moose Wala's young son, accused the police of sitting on their complaint despite providing substantial evidence. They expressed deep pain, having already lost their only son to gang violence, and now feel they are being denied access to the income generated from his legacy.
Balkaur Singh detailed the complaint, stating, "Earlier, our son was snatched from us and now, we are failing to get the income generated from our son's companies. Two companies were set up by Sidhu Moose Wala, and we learnt that income of crores was generated, but no bank accounts and sources of income are being provided to us." He filed the initial complaint with the Punjab Police Director General of Police (DGP) on June 8, 2025, targeting the company manager, Bunty Bains, and others associated with the firms. The case was subsequently marked to the Mansa SSP for inquiry, with investigations ongoing since August 2025.
Delays and Allegations of Neglect
Balkaur Singh further alleged significant delays in the police process, claiming that an inquiry report had been lying with the Mansa SSP for five days without being reviewed. He emphasized, "I filed a complaint about the unauthorised use of my son's unreleased tracks and profit from his legacy. Nothing was done about the complaint, and if the police feel the complaint is false, they should return the complaint." He also accused specific individuals of releasing tracks featuring Moose Wala's vocals without proper consent, violating the family's trust.
Charan Kaur echoed these concerns, alleging that some people were eyeing their son's income. She stated, "We wanted to highlight how the govt is treating us. People should know about all this," underscoring their desire for public awareness and justice.
Police Response and Political Criticism
In response to the protest, Harjit Singh, the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Bathinda Range, who was visiting Mansa, called the couple for talks. He assured them that the police were actively looking into the complaint and promised appropriate action would be taken soon.
However, Balkaur Singh did not hold back in his criticism of the political establishment. He targeted Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, saying, "The CM claims that he has launched 'Operation Prahaar' against gangsters, but in our case, no appropriate action was taken against the gangsters. The people close to the CM are trying to weaken our case." This adds a layer of political tension to the already emotionally charged situation.
Background and Denials
Sidhu Moose Wala was tragically gunned down on May 29, 2022, just one day after his security was reduced, a case that remains a sore point for the family. In contrast to the allegations, Bunty Bains has previously denied any financial dealings with the Moose Wala family, setting up a contentious dispute over the management of the rapper's estate.
The protest highlights ongoing struggles for justice and financial transparency in the aftermath of Moose Wala's death, with his parents determined to secure what they believe is rightfully theirs from his musical legacy.
