Madhya Pradesh BJP Core Committee Convenes Inaugural Meeting in Bhopal

The newly constituted 13-member core committee of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Madhya Pradesh held its first meeting on Tuesday evening at the chief minister's official residence in Bhopal. The gathering marked a significant organizational event, though notable absentee Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan was in Patna for the appointment of Bihar's new chief minister.

Key Attendees and Discussions

The meeting was attended by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, State BJP President Hemant Khandelwal, former state chief VD Sharma, Deputy Chief Ministers Rajendra Shukla and Jagdish Devda, along with state cabinet ministers Kailash Vijayvargiya, Prahlad Singh Patel, and Rakesh Singh. Other prominent members present included BJP regional organizational general secretary Ajay Jamwal, state in-charge Mahendra Singh, and former home minister Narottam Mishra.

This closed-door session commenced around 7:30 PM and extended late into the evening, primarily focusing on organizational matters and upcoming political programs. According to insider sources, discussions prominently featured preparations for awareness campaigns related to the proposed Nari Shakti Vandan (Amendment) Bill, 2026. This bill is expected to be taken up in a special session of Parliament this week, making it a critical agenda item for the party.

Additionally, the committee conducted a thorough review of the groundwork for the proposed Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill in the state. The UCC initiative represents a major legislative push aimed at standardizing personal laws across religious communities, and its implementation in Madhya Pradesh is being closely monitored. No official briefing was issued following the conclusion of the meeting, maintaining a veil of confidentiality over the detailed deliberations.

Evolution of the BJP State Core Committee

The BJP's state core committee has undergone several transformations in recent years, reflecting shifts in political strategy and leadership. In 2021, the panel comprised 21 members, including senior leaders such as then Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, former Union ministers Thavar Chand Gehlot, Pankaja Munde, Bisheswar Tudu, and Narendra Singh Tomar, who now serves as the speaker of the assembly. Other notable members were senior cabinet minister Kailash Vijayvargiya, then BJP national general secretary, cabinet minister Rakesh Singh, then an MP from Jabalpur, former BJP vice-president Prabhat Jha, Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, former Union minister Faggan Singh Kulaste, and former chief minister Vikram Verma.

In 2025, following Hemant Khandelwal's appointment as state president, the committee was downsized to nine members, streamlining its structure for more efficient decision-making. This previous core committee included deputy CM Rajendra Shukla, then an MLA, former ministers Gopal Bhargava, Narottam Mishra, Jayant Malaiya, former MP Krishna Murari Moghe, and national SC Morcha president Lal Singh Arya. The restructuring occurred after Khandelwal took over from VD Sharma, moving away from the bulky 21-member format to a more compact nine-member team.

Last week, a new core committee was appointed, expanding the membership to 13. This revision brought back key figures such as Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, VD Sharma, and Narottam Mishra into the committee, signaling a strategic reintegration of experienced leaders to bolster the party's organizational framework in Madhya Pradesh.
