MP Declares 2026 as 'Agriculture Year'

In a significant move aimed at revitalizing the rural economy, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has declared that the year 2026 will be officially observed across the state as the 'Agriculture Year'. The announcement was made during a high-level meeting held at the Vidhan Sabha Committee Hall in Bhopal on Friday.

Vision for a Prosperous Rural Economy

The initiative will be anchored on the powerful theme 'Prosperous Farmer: Prosperous State'. Chief Minister Yadav emphasized that the agriculture sector is the backbone of the state's economy, playing a pivotal role in uplifting poor and farming communities. He stated that the core objective is to move beyond the goal of merely doubling farmers' income and to transform agriculture into a profitable, sustainable, and technology-driven enterprise.

Yadav highlighted that focused activities in agriculture and its allied sectors can generate vast employment and self-reliance opportunities for the youth. The vision is to build a prosperous Madhya Pradesh through an empowered rural economy, which will be based on self-reliant farmers, advanced agricultural practices, and robust market linkages.

Strategic Focus and High-Level Participation

The crucial meeting was attended by key ministers and senior officials, underscoring the government's commitment. Agriculture Minister Adal Singh Kansana, Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development Minister Lakhan Patel, former minister Gopal Bhargava, and Chief Secretary Anurag Jain were among the dignitaries present.

The government plans to launch comprehensive initiatives for district-based cluster development. This integrated approach will bring together agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry, fisheries, and forestry under a unified development model. The focus will squarely be on the holistic development of these allied sectors alongside direct job creation.

Roadmap for 2026 and Beyond

The declaration of 2026 as the 'Agriculture Year' is not merely a symbolic gesture but is intended to lay down a concrete roadmap for the future. The state aims to create an employment-generating model from the agricultural sector. By leveraging technology and strengthening market connections, the government seeks to ensure that farming becomes a primary engine for economic growth and stability in Madhya Pradesh.

This policy move is expected to channel resources, planning, and public attention towards making the agrarian sector more resilient and rewarding for the millions who depend on it.
