In a shocking incident in Madhya Pradesh's Guna district, a man allegedly killed his wife over suspicions of an extramarital affair before taking his own life. The woman's alleged lover also died by suicide, police said on Wednesday.
Incident Details
The triple tragedy unfolded in a village under the jurisdiction of the Bada Kheda police station. The accused, identified as Ramesh (35), a farmer, suspected his wife Sita (30) of having an affair with a neighbor, Gopal (38). On Tuesday night, Ramesh confronted Sita at their home. A heated argument ensued, during which Ramesh allegedly struck Sita with a sharp weapon, killing her instantly.
After committing the murder, Ramesh went to the nearby fields and hanged himself from a tree. Meanwhile, Gopal, who learned of the incident, also consumed poison at his residence. He was rushed to a hospital but succumbed during treatment.
Police Investigation
Police arrived at the scene after being alerted by neighbors who heard the commotion. They recovered the bodies and sent them for postmortem. Preliminary investigations suggest that the affair had been a source of conflict between the couple for several months.
"We have registered a case and are investigating the matter. The exact sequence of events is being ascertained," said Station House Officer (SHO) Rajesh Sharma. He added that no suicide note was found, but statements from family members indicate that Ramesh was deeply disturbed by his wife's alleged relationship.
Community in Shock
The incident has left the village in a state of shock. Locals described the couple as having frequent arguments over the past few months. "We never thought it would come to this. It's a tragic loss of three lives," said a neighbor who wished to remain anonymous.
Authorities have urged people to seek counseling in cases of marital discord and to avoid taking extreme steps. The bodies have been handed over to the families after postmortem.
