A devastating head-on collision between two motorcycles on the Katol-Saoner road near Zilpa village in Nagpur resulted in three fatalities and left one woman critically injured on Monday evening. The tragic incident underscores severe road safety concerns in the region.
Victims Identified in Fatal Crash
The deceased have been identified as Satish Dhawale (25), a labourer from Sawangi Tomar in Kalmeshwar taluka, Rajendra Khandate of Lohgarh, and his four-year-old niece Aarohi. Rajendra's wife sustained grievous injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she is currently battling for life in critical condition.
Details of the Accident
According to police reports, the accident occurred around 5:30 PM. Satish Dhawale was returning home from Isapur after work, while Rajendra Khandate was travelling in the opposite direction with his wife and niece riding pillion on his motorcycle.
Preliminary investigation indicates that Dhawale was attempting to overtake another vehicle at high speed and inadvertently veered onto the wrong side of the road. This led to a catastrophic head-on collision with Khandate's motorcycle, throwing all four occupants onto the road with immense force.
Immediate Aftermath and Police Findings
Satish Dhawale, Rajendra Khandate, and the young child Aarohi died on the spot due to severe head injuries sustained in the impact. Authorities confirmed that none of the victims were wearing helmets at the time of the accident, which significantly contributed to the fatal outcomes.
Local law enforcement has launched a thorough investigation into the exact circumstances surrounding the crash. The incident has sparked renewed calls for stricter enforcement of helmet laws and improved road safety measures on rural highways to prevent such tragedies in the future.
